Hong Kong ferries: sailing times, fares and piers

One page per route, with the timetable for weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays or public holidays, fares in Hong Kong dollars and the exact pier, read from the operator and the Transport Department.

Every ferry and kaito covered here is a licensed service overseen by the Transport Department, which publishes the operator, the timetable and the fares of each route. Most timetables come in day types, typically weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays with public holidays, and the same crossing can have very different sailings on each. The pages keep those day types exactly as published.

Timetables are laid out the way Hong Kong piers display them: one row for each hour and the departure minutes next to it, so 07 followed by 15 and 45 means sailings at 07:15 and 07:45. Where an operator distinguishes ordinary ferries from fast ferries, or charges differently on holidays, the page shows both.

When Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or a higher signal is in force, ferry services are suspended and operators announce special arrangements. Those notices, not the tables here, apply on the day.

Piers on the map

Pins mark the piers and a dashed line joins the two ends of each route. Select a pin or a line to see the operator, the type of ferry and a few figures, with a link to the route page.

Cross-harbour ferries, outlying-island ferries and kaitos

A cross-harbour ferry links Hong Kong Island and Kowloon; an outlying-island ferry runs from Central to the larger islands; a kaito is a small licensed ferry serving villages and short crossings, often on a sparser timetable. The same routes, grouped by type.

Questions about ferries in Hong Kong

Can I pay with Octopus?

On many routes, yes, but not on every kaito. Each route page says how the operator takes payment, where the operator publishes it.

Why does the timetable change on public holidays?

Most operators run a Sunday timetable on general holidays, and some outlying-island ferries also charge a higher fare on those days. Each page lists the day types as the operator prints them.

Do the ferries run during a typhoon?

Not once Signal No. 8 or higher is hoisted. Operators announce when services stop and resume; check their notices on the day rather than the tables here.

Does the HK$2 concession apply on ferries?

Only on the routes and under the conditions set out by the Government and the operator. Where a route page mentions it, it links to the official source.

Where do the times and fares come from?

From the operator's timetable and fare table and from the Transport Department's route pages and notices. We keep a dated copy of each source and print the date next to every table.

Is there a Chinese version?

Yes. Each route also has a page in Traditional Chinese, written separately for Hong Kong readers, with the same figures and the same date checked.
