Wong Shek Pier sits on Long Harbour, which the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department also calls Tai Tan Hoi, inside Sai Kung East Country Park. From the campsite across from the bus terminus the department notes views of Ko Lau Wan and Tap Mun, and this Tsui Wah kaito links those three places: Wong Shek Pier on the mainland, Ko Lau Wan along the way and Tap Mun, an island in Tai Po District, at the end. Some trips also call at Chek Keng.
On Mondays to Fridays boats leave Wong Shek Pier at 08:30, 10:35, 12:30, 14:30, 16:30, 16:55 and 18:30, and Tap Mun at 07:45, 10:00, 11:45, 13:45, 15:45, 16:20 and 18:00. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the timetable fills out: from Wong Shek Pier the first boat is still 08:30 and the last 18:35, and from Tap Mun the day runs from 08:00 to 18:05.
Fares are HK$11 a trip for an adult from Monday to Friday and HK$16 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. These are the only passenger fares published; there is no child fare on the official tables.
HK$11 on weekdays, HK$16 at weekends
The fare depends on the day, not the direction: a single trip costs the same from Wong Shek Pier as from Tap Mun. Tsui Wah takes payment by Octopus or as cash dropped into a fare box, and no change is given, so carry coins if you are not using Octopus.
Only adult fares are published for this route. Neither the Transport Department nor Tsui Wah lists a child fare, so ask the crew before assuming a reduction.

A bus-terminus pier and an island landing
At Wong Shek the pier is beside the terminus of bus route 94, so there is only one place to wait. At Tap Mun the question is which boat: kaitos to Wong Shek and to Ma Liu Shui both call at the island, and the timetable marks four through sailings that also serve Chek Keng.
Wong Shek Pier
The pier is next to the Wong Shek bus terminus, where KMB route 94 from Sai Kung town ends. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department lists a water sports centre beside the pier and a campsite opposite the bus terminus, signposted as a five-minute walk.
Tap Mun
The Transport Department names the island landing simply as Tap Mun. Tsui Wah's longer kaito between Ma Liu Shui and Tap Mun also calls at the island, so check that the boat you board is heading for Wong Shek.
Wong Shek, Ko Lau Wan and on to Tap Mun
The kaito starts at Wong Shek Pier on Long Harbour and ends at Tap Mun. The Transport Department lists Ko Lau Wan as a boarding point on the route, at 22.458501, 114.360509 in its open data, and Chek Keng for some trips only. The map shows the two ends; no distance or sailing time is published.
Planning a day on Tap Mun
- Octopus or coins
Pay by Octopus or put cash in the fare box. No change is given.
- Watch the last boat
The last departure from Tap Mun is 18:00 on weekdays and 18:05 at weekends and on public holidays.
- Not every boat calls everywhere
Chek Keng is served only by some trips. The 10:00 and 16:20 from Tap Mun and the 10:35 and 16:55 from Wong Shek are the through boats via Ko Lau Wan and Chek Keng.
- Bicycles HK$13
Bicycles pay HK$13 each under Tsui Wah's freight table; small hand luggage that does not take a seat is free.
- Groups of 30 or more
Tsui Wah says it accepts bookings on its kaito routes only for parties of 30 or more; other passengers simply board.
- Accessibility unknown
No step-free or wheelchair information is published for these piers or boats. Call Tsui Wah on 2272 2022 before relying on it.
- When a typhoon is near
Kaitos and ferries generally stop running under the No. 8 typhoon signal, according to the Government, so watch the forecast before relying on the evening boat back. This page lists the ordinary timetable, not the day's actual sailings.
Through boats from Ma Liu Shui
Four sailings a day on this route are really part of another service. The Transport Department marks the 10:00 and 16:20 from Tap Mun and the 10:35 and 16:55 from Wong Shek Pier as departures operated by the Ma Liu Shui – Tap Mun kaito, travelling via Ko Lau Wan and Chek Keng; Tsui Wah's printed timetable marks the same boats as going via Chek Keng. That longer kaito has its own adult fares per trip, HK$20 on weekdays and HK$30 at weekends and on public holidays, so ask the crew what you will pay if you board one of these boats for the short hop.
Tsui Wah's other kaito on this site leaves the Sai Kung public pier for Kau Sai and High Island. Hong Kong's kaitos differ a good deal: in Aberdeen, the Ap Lei Chau kaito has no timetable at all and runs every 5 to 8 minutes, while Wong Shek – Tap Mun keeps fixed times and a weekend fare. Public holidays use the weekend list and the HK$16 fare: coming up are Christmas Day and the first weekday after it in 2026, New Year's Day 2027 and three days of Lunar New Year in early February 2027.
