Have an Octopus card or the right coins ready before you walk into the Sai Wan Ho pier building on Tai Hong Street, because the note Coral Sea Ferry prints for its Kwun Tong route says passengers in either direction pay there, by Octopus or with cash, and that it gives no change. An adult pays HK$9, the Transport Department reckons about 15 minutes for the crossing, and boats leave Sai Wan Ho at 3 and 33 minutes past the hour from 07:03.
Kwun Tong wakes up first. Its first departure is the 06:48, followed by boats at 18 and 48 minutes past each hour until the 21:18. Sai Wan Ho keeps its half-hourly rhythm until the 21:03 and then has one more boat, the 21:40, which the Transport Department shows as a 37-minute interval rather than another half hour.
There is no separate list for Sundays or public holidays: the Transport Department's table and Coral Sea's timetable give the same times for every day. That makes this the late option for Kwun Tong from the island, since Fortune Ferry's boats from North Point to the same pier finish before 20:00.
HK$9, taken at the Sai Wan Ho end
The fare is the same at any hour and on any day. HK$4.50 is charged to children under 12, to passengers 65 or older and to disabled passengers. The Transport Department's wording for the child fare mentions both the age limit and a 90 cm height, and neither source states whether babies and toddlers ride free, so ask the crew if you are travelling with one.
Coral Sea's fare note for the route says that everyone travelling to or from Kwun Tong settles the fare at the Sai Wan Ho pier, by Octopus or by putting cash in a box, with no change returned. It does not describe a separate ticket point at Kwun Tong.

Shared piers at both ends
Both ends are shared piers. At Sai Wan Ho, Coral Sea also runs the short hop to Sam Ka Tsuen from the same building, with a different timetable. At Kwun Tong, the Wing Yip Street pier also takes Fortune Ferry's boats from North Point; this route uses the Eastern Berth.
Sai Wan Ho Ferry Pier
This is where Coral Sea says the Kwun Tong fare is collected. Coral Sea's Sam Ka Tsuen boats leave from here too, so look for the Kwun Tong departure.
Kwun Tong Ferry Pier (Eastern Berth)
The Transport Department places this route at the Eastern Berth of the Wing Yip Street pier. Fortune Ferry's boats to North Point and Kai Tak use the same pier, with their own gate and fares.
From Sai Wan Ho over to the Kwun Tong shore
The crossing joins Sai Wan Ho, in Hong Kong Island's Eastern District, with the Kwun Tong waterfront in Kowloon, without calling anywhere else. About 15 minutes is the Transport Department's figure; Coral Sea publishes no crossing time and neither source gives a distance.
Before the Sai Wan Ho gate
- No change in the fare box
Octopus or the right coins. Coral Sea takes cash through a box and gives no change.
- Concession proof
Coral Sea may ask for an identity document from anyone paying HK$4.50.
- HK$5 for a bike
The Transport Department's fare table sets a bicycle at HK$5; goods cost HK$10 a unit, a unit being 60 kg or 0.12 m³.
- Infants not covered
No published rule says children below a certain age travel free on this route. Check with the crew before boarding.
- Step-free access unconfirmed
Neither source describes access for wheelchair users on this crossing. Ring Coral Sea on 2513 1103 before you go.
- Signal No. 8 or black rain
Coral Sea stops every one of its ferries under either warning and posts the restart time on its website and Facebook page. The list above is a schedule, not live departures.
The day Ragasa stopped the boats early
Scheduled times are not a promise. On 23 September 2025, ahead of Super Typhoon Ragasa, the Transport Department had this route stop early so that piers on its path, Kwun Tong's Eastern Berth among them, could be reinforced: the last boats left Kwun Tong at 9:18am and Sai Wan Ho at 9:33am. Coral Sea's general rule is to suspend all its ferries under Typhoon Signal No. 8 or a black rainstorm warning, and to restart only after an experienced captain has tested the sea.
The HK$2 concession on this route has a history of its own. Coral Sea announced that from 25 August 2024 only the JoyYou Card would earn the HK$2 fare, and since 3 April 2026 the Government scheme charges HK$2 only where the adult fare is HK$10 or less, which HK$9 is. Coral Sea also says it keeps a small fleet of wooden boats, four of them, refurbished from September 2016, without saying which ones sail to Kwun Tong.
Sai Wan Ho – Kwun Tong: practical questions
How early does the first Kwun Tong boat leave?
06:48. The first departure from Sai Wan Ho is at 07:03.
Is there a 21:33 from Sai Wan Ho?
No. After the 21:03 the only remaining boat is the 21:40, the last of the day from Sai Wan Ho.
Where do I pay if I board at Kwun Tong?
Coral Sea's note says the Kwun Tong fare, in both directions, is paid on the Sai Wan Ho side. It does not explain the procedure for boarding at Kwun Tong, so have your Octopus ready and ask the staff.
Will the boats run on Christmas Day?
The published list has no holiday variant, so 25 December uses the same times as any other day, weather permitting.
Can a toddler ride free?
No published rule for this route says so. The child fare is HK$4.50; ask the crew about very young children.
Is it cheaper to reach Kwun Tong from North Point?
Slightly. The adult fare on Fortune Ferry's boat from North Point (East) is HK$8.30, against HK$9 here. The North Point boats stop earlier in the evening.
Is the HK$2 concession valid here?
Yes, as long as the card itself pays: HK$2 per ride. The same price applies to a disability-status personalised Octopus, never to cash.
